    The Pickering Community Concert Band (PCCB) is looking for a new Conductor of our well-established community band of over 45 musicians.

    The candidate for the new Conductor opportunity must be familiar with classic band repertoire and able to lead musicians, playing in different styles at varying levels of musical ability, to achieve their best level of music performance as an ensemble.

    Description

    The Musical Director must be enthusiastic, knowledgeable in Concert Band repertoire and is expected to create a solid and friendly rapport with the musicians. He / She must work in collaboration with the Band Executive and Section Leaders. This is a paid position.

    Qualifications:

    ● A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in music or equivalent training and experience;

    ● Extensive knowledge of concert band music;

    ● Prior experience as a concert band conductor an asset.

    • The ability to encourage and motivate members to achieve their musical potential, both individually and collectively;

    ● The ability to organize and meet deadlines;

    ● Good interpersonal and communication skills;

    ● A willingness to work closely with Band Executive Committee and Band members;

    ● An active leadership role within the Band and function as an ambassador to the community;

    ● Availability for evening rehearsals, normally on Tuesdays, with flexibly for concerts and special events at other times;

    • The ability to create a collegial rapport with band members, while keeping experienced players interested and giving guidance and confidence to less experienced players.

    ● A willingness to attend and participate in meetings of the Executive Committee

    Musical Duties: The musical director must:

    ● Conduct rehearsals and performances effectively;

    ● Select music from band library and select music for purchase based on the annual budget.

    ● Create concert themes and repertoire lists for concert programs;

    ● Create repertoire lists for each season;

    ● Work closely with the band librarian to ensure timely music distribution to members;

    ● Convey concert repertoire to musicians well in advance of concerts;

    ● Plan rehearsals to ensure concert readiness

    The East York Concert Band (EYCB) is currently looking for a Principal Conductor of our well-established community band of approximately 40 players!

    The successful candidate will be familiar with classic band repertoire, able to lead musicians playing in different styles at varying levels of musical ability. The candidate will also have experience with the operational requirements of a typical community music ensemble; most importantly they must be able to provide a professional, motivating, and nurturing environment for the band members to achieve their best level of music performance.

    The Guelph Concert Band (GCB) is seeking the services of a conductor for duties commencing in the 2022-2023 season. The Guelph Concert Band began in 1878 and has a rich history in the City of Guelph. It draws players of all ages and from different backgrounds. As a non-auditioned band, the range of abilities among players varies. What unifies members is their love of music, and their desire to learn, grow and work together.

    The successful candidate will:

    • demonstrate a strong ability to motivate, inspire and instruct 
    • possess an excellent knowledge of concert band music and an understanding of the operation and capabilities of band instruments
    • the desire and capacity to work collegially with the board and its committees in concert planning and in the ongoing objective of advancing the calibre of the band
    • be well organized, punctual, and efficient in the management of rehearsal time 
    • have experience working with musicians of various ages and abilities
    • be willing to accept feedback and work with band members to foster a harmonious relationship

    Rehearsals take place Sunday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Guelph Youth Music Centre (75 Cardigan St., Guelph, ON, N1H 3Z7).

    We have been in existence since 1902 and we have evolved over the years to become a Community Concert Band with a membership of 40+ members. We no longer march, or wear kilts, and we perform public and private concerts throughout the calendar year. We are mostly funded by the Cambridge Charitable Bingo Center and the Music Directorship is a paid position. A successful candidate for Director would have experience with regards to:

    • Conducting a group of musicians
    • Music repertoire selection to match skill level of a group
    • Development of rehearsal strategies
    • Membership encouragement and growth
    • Public performance concert planning

    Due to Covid 19 restrictions The Board of Directors will be accepting resumes and conducting interviews via zoom, and once the Ontario restrictions are lifted, will be able to audition candidates

    The Intrada Brass of Oakville welcomes applications for the position of Music Director.

    The Board of Directors of the Intrada Brass seeks a Music Director who brings energy and commitment to help the band deliver on its mandate as defined in the Intrada Brass constitution. The successful candidate will help build a larger footprint in the community, serving more people that deepen their engagement with the band. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional musicianship and conducting skills with the ability to convey musical ideas and intentions. S/he will have significant experience conducting brass bands and brass ensembles as well as experience working with high-level amateur & professional musicians. S/he will have a wide knowledge and understanding of brass band and brass ensemble repertoire. Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills are necessary and the ability to work collaboratively with the board and meet deadlines is vital.

    The Milton Concert Band is looking for an experienced and dedicated Music Director. The role includes leading the band at rehearsals every Thursday evening from 7:30 to 10:00 pm and conducting performances several times a year. The music season runs from September to the end of July. The music director is also responsible for making decisions on music repertoire, musical instruction and further enhancing the efficacy of the band. There are about 40 band members of varying ages and musical abilities. The band is now in its 13th year and has become an integral part of the community performing two or three ticketed concerts (First Ontario Arts Centre, Milton) each year and free summer concerts in Milton’s Victoria Park in July.

    We offer:

    • Rehearsal space on one floor (Milton Baptist Church)
    • Time off at Christmas, March break and the month of August
    • A competitive per service rate


    Preferred Music Director/Conductor Qualifications and Skills:

    • Experience conducting community bands or similar musical groups
    • Demonstrated ability in working with adults to improve their musical skills
    • Able to challenge and work with musicians with a range of musical abilities
    • Comfortable running rehearsals, sectionals and selecting appropriate repertoire
    • Creative with the approach to program planning
    • Able to rehearse and plan for several concerts per year
    • Able to address tuning/playing and other issues with Concert Band Instrumentation
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Able to advance the quality of the band’s performances
