    CBBW 2020 CANCELLED

The Canadian Band Association - Ontario continues to monitor the impact of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. As the situation continues to change rapidly, our top priority remains the health, safety, and wellbeing of our members and their families.  As a result, the Canadian Band Association (Ontario Chapter) and our host organization, Whitby Brass Band, have mutually decided to cancel the upcoming Community Brass Band weekend.

It is yet unknown if rescheduling this event will be possible.  Both organizations remain committed, and will explore this possibility in 4 weeks time.  Until then, we ask for your continued patience, and that participants remain registered until such time as both organizations can further assess the situation.

If rescheduling is determined not to be a possibility, all registration fees will be fully refunded.  Those wishing to be refunded effective immediately may do so by submitting a request by email to president@cba-ontario.ca.

We thank you for your understanding, and look forward to seeing you at the next community band weekend.

    Kindest regards, and take care!
    CBA-ONTARIO TEAM

The passing of Michael Purvis-Smith is one in which is deeply felt across the wind band community and academia.  Michael was not only a former colleague and board member of the CBA-Ontario, but he was a gifted composer, conductor, and specialist of western classical music and its history.  On behalf of the CBA-ONTARIO , we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the entire family.

Here is a lovely tribute written about Michael...

He was a Renaissance man transplanted into the 21st century.

Canadian music has lost a true musical legend on March 30th, 2016 whose loss will be felt by many musicians, composers, ensembles, across the nation.  From a community band perspective, the name Howard Cable rings loud and clear having had contributed a large library of works written for the medium.  Titles such as Ontario PicturesNewfoundland Rhapsody, Quebec Folk Fantasy, Snake Fence Country and so many more have become standard within Canadian concert band literature, and have received numerous performances and recordings.  We at the Canadian Band Association – Ontario Chapter would like to extend our sincerest sympathies to the Cable family for their loss and recognize his memory by sharing some of the many tributes made recently in local media.

CBC – THIS IS MY MUSIC:

Not only has the CBC written a lovely article on his life, but they also featured an encore presentation of the late Howard Cable hosting This Is My Music.  A lovely segment that we encourage all of you to listen to.  Please visit these links to read and listen.
