Canadian music has lost a true musical legend on March 30th, 2016 whose loss will be felt by many musicians, composers, ensembles, across the nation. From a community band perspective, the name Howard Cable rings loud and clear having had contributed a large library of works written for the medium. Titles such as Ontario Pictures, Newfoundland Rhapsody, Quebec Folk Fantasy, Snake Fence Country and so many more have become standard within Canadian concert band literature, and have received numerous performances and recordings. We at the Canadian Band Association – Ontario Chapter would like to extend our sincerest sympathies to the Cable family for their loss and recognize his memory by sharing some of the many tributes made recently in local media.
