Music Director for the Clarington Concert Band

The Clarington Concert Band is seeking a passionate and skilled Music Director commencing in this 2024-2025 season. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in music direction and experience working with community bands or ensembles.

The Clarington Concert Band is a 40-member ensemble consisting of brass, woodwind, and percussion players. It serves as the primary community wind ensemble in the Clarington area. The band was established in 1992 and upholds a 176-year-old town band tradition in Clarington, dating back to the earliest documented band concert in Bowmanville in 1848.

On December 7, 2009, the City Council passed a resolution designating the Clarington Concert Band as the Official Town Band of Clarington.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct weekly rehearsals and performances.
  • Select and arrange music that aligns with the band’s diverse repertoire.
  • Collaborate with band members to create engaging and enjoyable performances.
  • Maintain and enhance the band’s musical standards.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all musicians.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in conducting and music direction, preferably with community bands or similar ensembles.
  • Strong knowledge of wind ensemble repertoire.
  • Ability to work with musicians of varying skill levels.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
